Accordion Solo!

experimental xiu motherfuckin xiu ten in the swear jar 7th grade nostalgia post-punk

This song is about a secret relationship Stewart witnessed between a young lesbian (his neighbor at the time) and a married older woman, with most of the lyrics being things that the couple had said to eachother. It was later reworked into “Sad Pony Guerilla Girl” for Xiu Xiu’s “A Promise”, albeit with a different arrangement as well as some minor lyric changes. Read more on Last.fm.

Ten in the Swear Jar (known by fans as TITSJ or XITSJ) was an indie/experimental band formed in 1999 after the breakup of Jamie Stewart's previous band, IBOPA. Stewart would go on to form Xiu Xiu. The band released two albums and had worked on a third unreleased work called Eat Death Orphans before breaking up a year later in July 2000. The band's roster included multi-instrumentalists Jamie Stewart, Cory McCulloch, Kurt Stumbaugh, Tim Kirby, and Don Dias. Xiu Xiu has acoustically reworked many of XITSJ's songs. XITSJ's experimental nature allowed Stewart the creative freedom to progress as a musician and form what would become Xiu Xiu. Jamie has noted in an interview that he felt the recordings were done hastily, but the band "rock[ed] the casbah live." All recordings by the band have been rereleased by Asian Man Records as Accordion Solo!. Read more on Last.fm.
