42 Dugg

Dion Marquise Hayes, better known by his stage name 42 Dugg, is an American rapper from Detroit, Michigan. He is jointly signed to rappers Lil Baby and Yo Gotti's respective labels 4 Pockets Full (4PF) and Collective Music Group (CMG), in conjunction with Interscope Records. Hayes was raised in the Outer-Drive Hayes neighborhood on the east side of Detroit, and grew up listening to Yo Gotti and Jeezy. Hayes first gained traction for tracks "The Streets" and "STFU". At age 15, Hayes was arrested and sentenced to 4 years in prison for carjacking, though a fight with an inmate while incarcerated extended his prison time to a total of 6 years. During his time in solitary confinement, he began writing rhymes to keep his grip on sanity. When he was let out, he pursued music full-time and self-released several projects like the 11241 Wayburn mixtape. He soon caught the attention of national-level stars, leading to him being signed to Yo Gotti's label. His 2019 studio debut, Young and Turnt, featured guest verses from fellow Detroit artist Tee Grizzley as well as known names like Blac Youngsta and Peewee Longway. In 2020, Hayes released Young & Turnt 2, an entirely freestyled mixtape, which debuted at number 70 on the Billboard 200. The same year, he was featured on Lil Baby's February track "Grace", peaking at number 48 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was also featured on Lil Baby's track "We Paid" in May 2020, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2021, he released his fourth mixtape, Free Dem Boyz, which peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200. Billboard named 42 Dugg the "R&B/Hip-Hop Rookie of the Month" in May 2021. Hayes has been involved in several legal issues throughout his career. In 2019, he was seen firing a gun in an Atlanta gun range, which he was prohibited from doing due to a prior felony conviction, and was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay a $90,000 fine. On June 5, 2020, Hayes fled from a traffic stop in a rented SUV, for which he was charged with a third-degree felony and released on a $20,000 bond. In 2021, Hayes was arrested for failing to report to serve his prison sentence for his 2019 gun range incident. He had previously tried to avoid incarceration by filing a court document in which he claimed to be a sovereign citizen immune from federal laws. Read more on Last.fm.
