A. Aimo

A. Aimo (1911-1963), real name Aimo Vilho Andersson, was one of the most popular Finnish singers in the 1930s and 1940s. He made over 300 recordings between 1932 and 1963, and many of his songs have been "rediscovered" as other artists have performed them. Aimo started out as an accordionist, and in 1932 he started working with the Dallapé orchester. During the period from 1932 to 1938, while he worked with Dallapé, he was at the peak of his popularity. In 1938 he briefly returned to his occupation as a car mechanic, but in 1939 he made a ten year contract with the Sointu label. Thus, his comeback coincided with WWII, and as a popular singer he also required to record propaganda pieces such as "Uraliin" (To the Urals). Read more on Last.fm.
