Anusheh

Anusheh Anadil has been searching for something beyond her tangible existence for as long as she can remember. For this reason, in spite of her training as a child in north Indian classical, she never found interest in music, until she discovered the Bauls of Bangladesh. Most of the songs written by her reflect this search. Since Bangla ’s beginning, in 1998, Anusheh has had enormous success, not only as a vocalist. Her courageously confident attitude and casual appearance made her stand out in the male dominated field of Bangladesh’s band music. She has won two awards, The Musical Journalist’s Award (2006), and Annanya’s Sreshtho 10 Nari (Top 10 women of Bangladesh) 2007, both for raising her voice against religious intolerance through music. Anusheh’s deep, powerful voice has made her a favourite of many great musicians across the globe. She has worked with legends like Jonas Helborg (Mahavishnu Orchestra). She was featured in Susheela Raman’s ‘Music for Crocodiles’. Anusheh has recorded a song with the band Indian Ocean, of Delhi, for Abhik Mukhopadhay’s film Bhoomi , worked with Pandit Tanmoy Bose, for an album called ‘Baul and Beyond’, among others. For her bread and butter, Anusheh runs an ethnic craft shop in Dhaka called Jatra. Everything at Jatra is made by local crafts-persons, for whom she has bigger dreams yet to be realized. She continues to learn music under the guidance of her guruma Kalpana Bhattacharya. Read more on Last.fm.
