Arcade

There are three Arcade's which inhabit this page now. The details for glam metal band appear first, then electronica act second, a Christian instrumental project third. 1) Arcade was a short-lived outfit that included members from some of the biggest bands of the 80's glam metal scene. Formed in 1992, they recorded two albums: 1993's Arcade and 1994's A/2 with little fanfare and eventually a chance at regaining past glories would tear the band apart. Vocalist Stephen Pearcy left Ratt in 1992 and hooked up with drummer Fred Coury who had just walked away from Cinderella himself. They completed the line-up with Donny Syracuse (guitar), Michael Andrews (bass), and former Sea Hags guitarist Frankie Wilsex. They signed a major label deal with Epic and the debut was to be called Calm Before The Storm before being released as simply Arcade. But with little label support and the changing music scene, Arcade was doomed to fail and the follow-up A/2 went unnoticed. By the late 90's the glam metal scene was starting to pick up life again, so both Pearcy and Coury returned to the bands that had made them famous. When Pearcy left Ratt again in 2000 he re-teamed with Wilsex and went on the road as Nitronic, the same year that the final Arcade CD of demos (A/3: Live and Unreleased) and live recordings was released. Great music with a harder edge than either Ratt or Cinderella was all that remained. Other releases were: A/4 Calm Before The Storm in 2006 and Livin' Dangerously in 2013 2) Arcade have been making digital music in Birmingham since 2001. Appearances at Brum Creative nights lead to releases on Experimental Seafood Records, plays by John Peel and reviews in the Wire. More home-town gigs followed including an appearance at The Electric Cinema. With a strong sense of the local to the fore The Chemsely Wood ep was released in 2004. Arcade contributed a track to the seminal Binary Oppositions compilation released by Static Caravan in 2007. The remix of Chemsely Wood found a perfect home when spun by Stuart Maconie during his ultra hip esoteric exploration The Freak Zone (Radio6). To be singled out for airplay when in the company of leading local lights including Broadcast and Modified Toy Orchestra is a measure of Arcade’s innovative approach to digital composition. With arbiters of taste such as Maconie and The Wire receptive to his work the future looks bright for Arcade and all that emerges from his home studio in Birmingham. 3) Arcade, a Christian instrumental project.
