Evrencan Gündüz

Evrencan Gündüz was born on February 2 1996 in Kadıköy, son of Asım Can Gündüz. Evrencan, who was taking part in choirs and theaters during his primary school education started to take piano lessons together with his sister in the 4. grade and continued those regularly for two years. When he was in secondary school, he participated in various festivals with the school choir, orchestras and his teachers. His admiration for the music genre Blues started with the movie ‘Ray Charles’ when he was 13. He grew up listening to Jimi Hendrix, BB. King, Albert Collins, Fredie King and James Brown which determined the quality and style of his music. Evrencan, who got interested in the guitar when he was 14, learned playing the classical guitar through the contribution of his guitar playing friends and by watching videos on the internet. At the age of 15, he learned to play the electro guitar beside the classical guitar when his father gave him an electro guitar as a gift. He enriched his experience by taking the stage with his father in different hotels and locations. When he turned 16, he started being a street musician and founded his first band called T-Blues together with his friends during that year and performed in different concerts and festivals. He played on ferries until it was banned to make music there. In Rock’n Purple which is a music competition between high schools, he won three prizes in total, best solo, best group in the rock category and by using a traditional instrument called ‘kemençe’, a small three-stringed violin, in his Don’t Let Me Down arrangement of the Beatles, he won ‘the most unusual instrument’ award. Beside his unplugged solo programs, he continues to perform concerts with his band ‘Evrencan Gündüz ve Uzaylılar’ (Evrencan Gunduz and the Aliens) along composing and working on his album. While his EP Evrencan ve Uzaylılar which was published on 8.October, entered the Top Ten of the Apple Music album charts and is 1. rank in the iTunes Music Store album charts, all songs took place in the Top Ten of Spotify Turkey’s - Viral 50 chart. His successful breakthrough which was achieved without any album promotion campagne drew particular attention. His "aliens" are preparing to enter the studio for the album’s second EP recording Mevsim Çiçekleri. Beside that Evrencan who continues with his music life, aims to be one of the best jazz and blues musicians in the world, he is still carrying on with his academic career at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Aquaculture Engineering.
