Garabala

"Garabala" is an acoustic band reviving Armenian folk music in its own unique way. The band was established in Beirut, Lebanon in November 2011. It started as a project when an organizer of an Armenian event asked a member to prepare some Armenian songs. After the first performance, the participants realized that they can continue to work together and prepare a bigger playlist and thus, they developed into a band. At first, the band consisted of vocals, guitar, violin and percussion. Soon, after, in 2012, the accordion joined the band. Slowly, the group took form and it became a popular band in the Armenian community. Today, Garabala consists of members Hrag Karakashian(guitar and vocals), Khatchig-Hrag Demirdjian(violin), Aram Papazian(percussion), Sebouh Aintablian (accordion), Aline Naccashian(vocals), Hagop Harfoushian (saxophone) and Shahan Kilaghbian (double bass). The band does not compose their own music yet , however they strive to mix different styles to revive and modernize old Armenian songs. Most of their repertoire revolves around Armenian folk music, but they also embrace other cultures by including Tsigane, Jazz and other styles in their musical arrangements. Read more on Last.fm.
