Hox Vox

Hox Vox is a multimedia brand (music, videoclips, graphics), started in 2008, by Hox (b. Gianluca Missero, in Venezia, Italy - he plays also in The Wreck Up, Turbogrind Terrorizers and The Blasted Muffins). Influences are the Residents, Frank Zappa, Cardiacs, Mike Patton, John Zorn, Pere Ubu, Gentle Giant, Can & Les Claypool. The music environment is RIO / progressive rock, as a container for almost any genre, often mixing many of them in a single track. Hox plays bass (for both bass & guitar parts), keyboard & occasional vocals. Missero played in other two bands: bass and keyboards with Marco Bianchi (drummer of Death in Venice) in the avant-wave duo SlideStraviati, and keyboards in new wave Gunshot Nucleus again with Bianchi, Sebastian Russo (singer of Death in Venice) and Alberta Marchiori. Eight-Bit Deboned was composed and played in 1989 using a simple tracker, (Oktalizer 1.0 on an Amiga 500) and a few samples token from Amiga magazines' bonus disks and an Akai sampler. The resulting sound reminds of Residents or Fred Frith. It was spreaded on Amiga floppy disk in Octamed MOD format. Outskirt (2008) is a concept album about low inhabitated, or at least outside-centre areas. Genres vary according to the ambient, from kraut rock electronics to indie, jazz, death metal, avantgarde and more. Das Chamäleon (March 14, 2009) is a 5 tracks record about mutant music, obtained through bizzarre pairings or juxtaposing uneven genres. Étoile (July 4, 2009) is a concept album about stars - both intended as prima ballerinas and celestial bodies - and their issues. Music is a series of pastiches with world music, symphonic progressive, a bit of contemporary and kraut electronics, always with the free approach of Rock in Opposition tradition (from Zappa to Henry Cow): sometime resulting in complex structures with mindbending pairings of melodies with subtle detuned arrangments. Étoile starts with a Residents-like intro sung by a couple of real pigs, then a piece of math/art rock, sounding like a too dry death metal. Then from Rhythmbox the record begins wedging prog, contemporary, world and electronics. Hurry Up Harry part 1 (December 16, 2009) is first of a trylogy. An electronic blender concept album based on breakbeat rhythms, the story is about Harry ever on the run between rebellions and his ghosts, and the record is in memory of Death in Venice drummer Marco Bianchi. Mjöllnir (April 4, 2010) - Avantprog album with a touch of Zeuhl, loosely inspired by Magma, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, EL&P, Faust. First part is made by eight portraits (Jörð, Odin, Sif, Thor, Baldr, Loki, Freyr and Heimdall), plus two finals tracks: - Ragnarök (“final destiny of the gods”), in Norse mythology is a series of major events, including a great battle foretold to ultimately result in the death of a number of major figures (including the gods Odin, Thor, Freyr, Heimdall, and the jötunn Loki), the occurrence of various natural disasters, and the subsequent submersion of the world in water. - Epilogue, referring to the afterwar. The Wanderer (June 5, 2010) - A story about a doped killer on the way to catch his victim, during a whole night in Savannah (GA). Five scenes includes an introduction (The Wanderer, genre alt. pop), where the killer wake up from drugs effects, and the subsequent route through the latin area (La Posada de Joaquín Ortega, latin jazz), downtown (Downtown Strut, funky), and actually on Savannah harbour (Port of Savannah, avant prog). Last three minutes of blistering hysterical chase are enclosed in ending track, Gotcha (hardtechno). Dada EP - This EP includes first 4 tracks from forthcoming new record Dada, a concept album about Dadaism art movement seen through famous Dadaists' points of view. Hugo Ball and Tristan Tzara are two electronic ballads, winding between kraut rock and trip-hop.
