Hozan Sena

Sena’s birth in the Kurdish region of Dersim / Western Kurdistan (today’s Tunceli in Eastern Turkey) includes only a small part of the former language and cultural area; the music is not only everywhere in daily life present, there is also a central mainly part of the spiritual world of the Alawite dominated population. In the mythology of the people of Dersim - represent a living for centuries in secluded mountainous and largely pre-Islamic culture, its religious references sun, water springs, rocks, mountain peaks and inner retreat by (rhythm), singing and dancing - are the bards and folk singers of great importance : they are the sole and authentic narrators of this very old, rare and threatened extinction of the language, culture and music tradition. The musical and thematic background of Sena’s songs refers to the tradition of the bards and folk singers in Dersim. Times very gently, sometimes rough, but always accompanied by powerful and melancholy she sings the epics and ballads of their homeland. Vocally she feels the traditional music of her homeland to strive both authentic and the musical heritage of the Alawite bard through modern arrangements and the use of Western instruments in contemporary music adapted. She looks very happy, and preferably close to soul and blues elements of style and attempts by the folk music tradition in Dersim in the refresh carefully. Born and raised in Dersim, she has moved through stations in Mardin and Istanbul to Germany, where she has lived for five years. Her debut album entitled Asme û Pêr ("With the wings to the sky") came out in April 2005 in Germany, with the record label MIR. Four of the ten songs that are mostly) in their native language Zazaki and Kurdish partly in Kurmanci (and sung in Turkish, she has composed herself and texted). The other tracks are traditional origin and those of contemporary folk singers from Dersim. In 2009, Sena's second album Azdanê appeared. Read more on Last.fm.
