INSULATOR PROJECT

Insulator Project created by Maxim Ulrich and Anton Milotov, arose in May of 2006, Moscow, Russia. The participants of the project played first, as they say, for pleasure, and there was not precise direction for their music. Being inspired by the works of Download, Autechre, Scorn, Vromb and some other representatives of experimental electronic scene, they were tasting the waters for creation gradually. After the first rehearsals Maxim and Anton decided to reject any existing concepts and necessity to keep within some or other bounds, and, subsequently, sound of Insulator became completely experimental. Practically all the compositions available at the moment, were recorded live. At the time of working at studio nobody suspects, what will be a final result because the leading role at music creation is played by improvisation. Probably, uniqueness of the project is in it. If to select words to describe Insulator’s music, perhaps, it is possible to say that it is characterized by gloominess, certain hypnotism. Analogue synthesizers are used together with a powerful digital sound, but all is not limited to only electronics: it is possible to hear guitars and real drums quite often. Alexander Kulagin (Altera Forma, the Moscow laptop orchestra) and some other musicians co-operate with Insulator periodically. The participants of Insulator Project make no secret of the fact that they position their music as an alternative to soulles and boring computer sound which the majority of modern electronic music is based on.
