Jung Kook (Jeon Jungkook; Korean: 전정국) is a Grammy Award-nominated singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer. Jung Kook is the main vocalist, center, lead dancer, and sub rapper of the band, BTS. Jung Kook is known for having absolute pitch (or perfect pitch), a rare ability that approximately only one in ten thousand people have. He is the youngest member and the designated “Face of the Group”, due to his massive popularity. Jung Kook is called the “Golden Maknae” (or the “Golden youngest”), since he is considered to be extremely multi-talented and a musical prodigy. The name was given to him in 2013 by his fellow band member and the leader of BTS, RM. Jung Kook is also a director, filmmaker, choreographer, painter, athlete, and musician. Often referred to as the “Ace of K-Pop” by the media, Jung Kook is recognized as the most talented, popular, and successful K-Pop Idol in history. In February 2022, Jung Kook officially started his work as a solo artist with the release of “Stay Alive (Produced by SUGA of BTS)”, the record-breaking original soundtrack from the webtoon, “7 FATES: CHAKHO”. In June 2022, Jung Kook was also featured on Charlie Puth’s hit song “Left and Right”. During the BTS Festa dinner party that aired in June 2022, Jung Kook announced that he is working on his upcoming solo album. Jung Kook was born on September 1, 1997, in Busan, South Korea. After auditioning for the television show “Superstar K” in 2011, Jung Kook received offers from seven different entertainment companies. At the age of 13, he chose to join Big Hit Entertainment (now Big Hit Music) as a trainee. In 2013, at the age of 15, he made his official debut in BTS. Jung Kook holds the most positions and two of the most important positions in the band: the Main Vocalist and Center. In 2017, Jung Kook graduated from the School of Performing Arts Seoul, an arts high school. On March 3rd, 2022, he graduated from Global Cyber University and received his degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment Education. Jung Kook received the President’s Award, the University’s highest honor award. Under BTS, Jung Kook has released three solo songs: “Begin”, “Euphoria”, and “My Time”. “Euphoria” is currently the most streamed solo song from BTS and is the most streamed song by a Korean male soloist in Spotify’s history. Jung Kook also released two of his original songs on the official SoundCloud for BTS, “Still With You” and “My You”. He wrote and produced these songs for his fans, called “ARMY”. Jung Kook has also been credited for writing and producing multiple record-breaking songs for BTS, including the songs “Magic Shop”, “Your Eyes Tell”, and “Film Out”. Jung Kook has been nominated for five Grammy Awards with BTS, for their songs “Dynamite”, “Butter”, “My Universe”, and “Yet to Come”. With five Grammy Award nominations, BTS has become the most nominated Korean Act in history. The band has been nominated for the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for three consecutive years. For the 2023 Grammys, BTS has been nominated for three awards: “Best Pop/Duo Group Performance”, “Best Music Video”, and “Album of the Year” as a featured artist on “Music of the Spheres” by Coldplay. In 2022, Jung Kook made history by becoming the first and only Korean soloist and K-Pop Solo Idol to be nominated in a major category at the MTV Video Music Awards. Jung Kook was nominated for “Song of Summer”, along with Charlie Puth, for their hit song “Left and Right”. Jung Kook is also the first K-Pop Solo Idol in history to be nominated at the People’s Choice Awards. Jung Kook was nominated for the “Music Video of 2022” and the “Collaboration of 2022”, for “Left and Right” with Charlie Puth. In September 2022, Jung Kook was chosen as the “Artist of the Summer” by Audacy (the second largest radio company in the U.S.). With the incredible success of “Left and Right”, Jung Kook has become both the highest and longest charting K-Pop Solo Idol in history on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In November 2022, Jung Kook received the “Eternal Artist Award” for the Melon Music Awards. In the same month, Big Hit Music announced that Jung Kook will be part of the official soundtrack for the FIFA World Cup and that he will perform for the opening ceremony in Qatar. Jung Kook has made history by becoming the first and only Korean and K-Pop Act to perform at the FIFA World Cup. The 2022 FIFA World Cup is expected to have over 5 billion viewers. Jung Kook is known for his philanthropy and for being a positive influence on the world, together with BTS. In 2017, Jung Kook was named a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF. BTS partnered with UNICEF for the Love Myself Campaign, aimed at ending violence towards children and teens around the world. BTS delivered a speech at the 73rd United Nations general assembly, and urged young people to find their voice. In 2018, Jung Kook became the youngest person in history to be awarded the Order of Cultural Merit by the President of South Korea. In 2019, Jung Kook was named a global ambassador to help combat climate change, when BTS partnered with Formula E. In 2020, BTS donated one million U.S. dollars to Black Lives Matter, and the BTS ARMY matched their donation in one day. In 2021, Jung Kook was appointed as a Special Presidential Envoy for future generations and culture by the President of South Korea. Jung Kook delivered an inspirational speech at the United Nations, along with his fellow BTS band members. BTS spoke about topics such as climate change, vaccines, and the hope for a better world. In 2022, Jung Kook (with BTS) traveled to the White House to meet with the President of the United States to raise awareness and speak out against anti-Asian hate crimes. Read more on Last.fm.
