Margaret Becker

Contemporary Christian Music performer Margaret Becker has been a singer-songwriter since 1987, with twenty number one singles, four Grammy Nominations, four Dove Awards and seven Songwriter of the Year awards to her credit. Other honors include American Songwriter magazine's Songwriter of the Year. SESAC, a performance rights organization, also bestowed that title on her seven times. She was born July 17, 1959 in Bayshore, New York and worked as a music teacher prior to moving to Nashville in 1985 to take a songwriter job with Sparrow Records. By 1986, the label signed her as a performer and she scored her first CCM chart hit "Fight for God" from debut album NEVER FOR NOTHING. Her sound for the most part is pop but at times has shown influences from Motown (as on SIMPLE HOUSE's "Talk About Love") and Celtic music (via the NEW IRISH HYMNS series beginning with a 2001 collaboration with Máire Brennan and Joanne Hogg). Outside her own singing, she formed a publishing company (Modernm) and has produced for other artists. She has also authored several books and involved herself with charitable organizations battling AIDS and poverty. Read more on Last.fm.
