Murray Gold

Murray Gold (born 28 February 1969) is an English composer for stage, film, and television and a dramatist for both theatre and radio. He is best known as the musical director and composer of the music for Doctor Who from its revival in 2005 until 2017. In 2023, he was announced to be returning to the series. Gold's other television work includes Queer as Folk, Last Tango in Halifax and Gentleman Jack. He has been nominated for five BAFTAs. Gold's credits date back to 1996, and some of his better-known work includes music for the television series Queer as Folk, Shameless, Casanova, Vanity Fair and Clocking Off as well as the 2000 film Beautiful Creatures. From 2005 to 2017, Gold served as musical director for the new series of Doctor Who for the BBC. In this capacity, he created a new arrangement of the show's theme (originally composed by Ron Grainer) and also composes most of the show's incidental music. There have been twelve CD releases covering Gold's work on nine series' of the Doctor Who revival; the most recent being "Doctor Who - Series 9 (Original Television Soundtrack)".
