My Squad

My Squad (pronounced: myh scwad) is the birth-name for a yet-to-be-discovered and yet-to-be-properly-named band from Warsaw, Poland. Formed around 1997 by Konrad Wieczorek (bass guitar, vocals) and Michał Pawełko (rhythm guitar, lead guitar, backup vocals) when the two (still in primary school) discovered a music sampling program called Sound Club and began recording simple, yet twisted techno tracks. Soon enough, their music evolved due to inspirations ranging from heavy metal and black metal through punk rock to hip hop and rap. Around the year 2001 the duo equipped themselves with one electric and one bass guitar and began recording their first non-synthetic tracks. To aid them in their new style of playing, Michał and Konrad recruited two primary school friends Patryk Leszczyński (lead guitar) and Dariusz Sworst (drums) and together recorded a few cover tracks (originally by bands like Metallica, Black Sabbath, blink-182 and Blind Guardian). Unfortunately, the productive period of the group ended in the fall of 2002, when the four all went to pursuit college education. The only two members who still managed to stay musically productive were Michał and Konrad. The band recessed to the original lineup and limited their creation to e-mailing each other sample riffs tabbed in a computer program. The renaissance of My Squad came in the summer of 2006, when Konrad and Michał united once more for a week of garage sessions in a village named Jachranka, 20km from Warsaw (where Konrad's parents built a summer house). The duo recorded the breakthrough song Terrorise with the use of primitive, on-hand equipment and with only the bass and guitar, but the seed of creation was planted once more. In 2007, My Squad returned to Jachranka with an additional guitarist Jakub Szczypior who took part in recording a couple of new songs that are yet to be released. Dariusz Sworst - My Squad's former drummer was present during the recordings but was reluctant to play and has been more inclined in pursuing a family life, leaving the band currently lacking a complete rhythmic section. As of 2010 three new songs were recorded and are due release after proper mixing and mastering. Read more on Last.fm.
