Randy Twigg

Hitting below the belt with catchy, disjointed riffs, Canadian Randy Twigg restores the simple beauty of heavy rock and roll. Originating from the rock and punk scene of Toronto, she has been quickly adopted by Berlin, one of the most influential creative capitals of the world. Currently based there, she has thoroughly colluded and conspired a fresh sound in the local music scene. Before relocating to Europe Twigg was a driving force behind the electro metal duo, Fuck Puppets (BugEyed Records), but has since moved to the top of Berlin's unique underground music scene with her no holds barred power rock. Flight cases moving in and out of airports, Twigg has toured as a solo artist as well as a bass player with the American band, Mt. Sims, with French artist, Mell, collaborating and playing live with Kid Congo Powers (Gun Club, The Cramps) and Tobi Dammit (Iggy Pop, Jessie Evans). With interests in the transgression and distortion of raw sound and electronics, Twigg released her debut solo album, Undone, in 2009 on Tigerbeat6 Records. Merging fuzzed out bass guitar, synthesizers, and live drums, she began a natural progression into the world of raw instrumentation. Now she operates on stage with one bass and one voice accompanied only by Alexis Gaffuri on drums. Twigg has masterminded a live sound so massive it is shocking to be produced by only 2 instruments. Her sound is alive with a heartfelt disorder that gave birth to this monumental two-headed beast. She blurs the lines between a being power duo of simplicity and serving up a complexity of extreme emotions. Twigg turns the ultra-glamorous sexuality of Debbie Harry into Ozzy Osbourne, shattering the codes of femininity. Randy Twigg's new release, Behaviour of the Birds, is divided into 11 tracks that are equally powerful, stripped, simple and effective. Poetic lyrics sung by her unique low, minor key voice mesh fluently with the raw distortion of bass and booming drums. This album contains a perfect combination of complex compositions that are catchy and songs that are straight to the point. Behaviour of the Birds is a cross continental production that was recorded in Berlin, mixed in Toronto with Rob Sanzo (Iguana Recording/Signal to Noise), and mastered in NYC. Perhaps this also adds to its diversity as it embodies a basic rock and roll ethic of the past that feels new again. Set for release in June 2011 by Araknid Records, Behaviour of the Birds is a must buy and Randy Twigg is a must see live show! Read more on Last.fm.
