Romina Mamo

Romina was born on the 17th July 1983, on the island of Malta and she lives in B’Kara. In November 2005 she obtained her academic degree in the Bachelors of Education (Hons) from The University of Malta after having finished her studies. Currently she is teaching Mathematics, ICT and Computer Studies at the Kulleġġ San Benedittu, Boys’ Secondary. Apart from teaching the academic subjects at the college, Romina is also one of the coordinators in the extra curricular activities related to performing arts. Nine years ago she started her singing career by attending classes in voice technique with qualified tutor Mro Brian Cefai. In July/August 2000 Romina was selected to attend a two-week music conference at the International House Sonnenberg in Germany, where she took part in workshops and concerts as a solo singer and as part of an international choir. Following that she took part as a solo singer and as a member of the Amadeus Chamber Choir locally and abroad in different concerts. She used to play the guitar and for two years was the main vocalist of the rock band Beate Route. She was also one of the singers in the project Taking Gender Equality to Local Communities organized by the NCPE and co-financed by the community framework strategy on gender equality (2001-2005). In the year 2003 Romina appeared for the first time in the finals of the Malta Song For Europe with the song Here today gone tomorrow written by Mro Dominic Galea and Professor Joe Friggieri. In the year 2005 she was once again present in the final of the Malta Song For Europe with the song We can do better written by Carm Fenech. Romina participated and was finalist in well known local festivals namely L-Ghanja tal-Poplu, The International TV Song Festival and Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with songs written by Philip Vella & Charles Flores, Ray Agius & Godwin Sant, Clinton Paul, Augusto Cardinali, Dominic Galea & Ray Mahoney and Carm Fenech. In 2004 she obtained third place with the song Sahhartni written by Augusto Cardinali and Clinton Paul. After establishing herself in Malta, participation in festivals abroad, was Romina’s top priority. This gave her great satisfaction in these last years. In July 2003 Romina placed third in the festival L’Anziano nella societa.. with the song Dentro gli occhi degl’anziani written by Mro Franco Matricano and Mro Francesco Bonagura. Following that in August 2003 Romina obtained first and best interpretation in the festival La vela d’oro with the song Senza Finzioni written by Mro Paul Abela and Mro Francesco Bonagura. In the same year she also obtained first place in the Premio Nazionale Artemare 2003 with the song E.. Sapro written by Italian composers Mro Franco Matricano and Frabon. After these great experiences Romina was asked to go back to Italy and was offered the opportunity to work with a music house in Milan, something that Romina regretfully had to ignore as she was half way with her studies for the degree in the Bachelors of Education (Hons) at the University of Malta. In August 2008 Romina was invited again to represent Malta in the Premio Nazionale Artemare where she obtained the second place with the song Il gioco delle onde written by Mro Paul Abela, Massimo Roversi and Frabon. Between January and July of the year 2008 Romina had the opportunity to work on a new look and style during the Malta Hit Song festival on One tv with the song An Illusion written by Ivan Debattista and Natasha Turner. Romina’s new look was greatly welcomed. Last summer, she worked with well known choreographer Jes Sciberras on the song Medusa written by Clinton Paul. This song was one of the finalists for Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2008 and finished in the 6th place. Apart from singing, Romina was also the hospitality officer in the entertainment committee during the volleyball marathon organized by the Kerygma movement for four consecutive years. She also attended several courses in Musical Theatre and Drama for Theatre, where she was given the opportunity to take part in various musicals by Kumpanija Teatru Rjal. Lately she also attended two courses in Drama for Screen and she also made her first appearance as an actress on One TV in the series Miriana Coljero.. directed by Mark Doneo. In October 2008 she appeared in another series Is-Sigill tal-Qrar, aired on Net TV. Romina also appeared as a presenter in several events around Malta, amongst which the official opening ceremony of Kullegg San Benedittu Sekondarja Subien and once again she assisted Louise Doneo in presenting the weekly quiz Esperti on One TV, after the popularity this quiz held 2 years ago. Currently, she is also attending a TV Presenter course organized by WEBA, Jazz classes at the Johane Casabene Dance Conservatoire and an advanced course in Drama for Screen with the Actor’s workshop. She is also taking part in the International Malta Hit Song Contest 2009 with the song Primitive written by Clinton Paul and Rita Pace. Read more on Last.fm.
