Silicon Teens

Silicon Teens were a one-off electropop project by synth whiz Daniel Miller, who is best known as the founder and owner of highly influential independent record label Mute Records. The "group" was publicised as a quartet named Darryl, Jacki, Paul and Diane, but in reality these individuals did not exist and for media interviews their parts were played by actors. Their singer called Darryl was played by fellow Mute act Frank Tovey aka Fad Gadget. The project was launched in 1980 with a sole album called "Music For Parties". When people realised that the group didn't exist, Miller decided to find a real teen pop synth-playing group - this led to the signing of Depeche Mode. Miller also recorded the single "Warm Leatherette" (1978) under the name The Normal. Daniel Miller is a prolific producer for Mute artists, producing such acts as Depeche Mode, Wire, Fad Gadget and Yazoo. Read more on Last.fm.
