The Dirt Daubers

JD Wilkes & The Dirt Daubers are a American roots music band that play a range of old time acoustic to hard driving swamp rock. JD Wilkes is most notably known for the Legendary Shack Shakers, as well as, his solo music projects and folkloric research drawn from Southern music and dance traditions. The Dirt Daubers consist of Rod Hamdallah (of the Shack Shakers) on electric guitar, drummer Preston Corn, and Jessica Wilkes on upright bass and JD Wilkes as frontman. Their most recent album, Wild Moon (2013), was produced by punk legend Cheetah Chrome and released by Plowboy Records. As husband and wife, JD and Jessica Wilkes trade off on lead vocals, and while Wild Moon is certainly a departure from their earlier repertoire, during live performances, the band incorporates material from Wake Up Sinners (2011) and The Dirt Daubers (2009). In 2013, JD Wilkes published the book, Barn Dances and Jamborees Across Kentucky, which examines fieldwork conducted by himself and his wife and explores the folkloric underpinnings of social dance functions, past and present, in their home state. As a visual artist, JD has created numerous sideshow banners and comic strips in his distinct Southern Gothic aesthetic (including a collection published into book format, Grim Hymns: Tunes and Tales from the Hills of Hell).
