Founded in 1974, the Hilliard Ensemble originally focused on vocal music of the late medieval and renaissance eras, but the group have also expanded their repertoire to include contemporary music. While the ensemble was originally formed for a-capella performances, they have enjoyed popular success in collaborations with the Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek.
