Urmas Alender

Urmas Alender (November 22, 1953 – September 28, 1994) was the lead singer of Ruja, an Estonian rock band, active in the 70's 80's and 90's. His first band was "Varjud" ("Shadows"). He also sang in the rock bands Ruja, Andromeeda and Propeller. Urmas wrote about 200 songs. Most of them are minor. He was an Estonian patriot. Estonia was all for him. Unfortunately, the Soviet regime forced him to flee to Sweden. On September 28, 1994, while en route from Tallinn to Stockholm, Sweden, Urmas Alender was one of the 852 individuals who died when the cruiseferry M/S Estonia sank in the Baltic Sea. He was 40 years old. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
