Öykü & Berk

Öykü and Berk born in 4 August 1982 as children of a Paco de Lucia fan father and a Turkish Classical Music performer mother. Their family always have music in their life. But their teorical musical education begun in Pera Guzel Sanatlar Lisesi (Pera Fine Arts College). While studying at Pera, Öykü get violin and voice courses. She was on stage on school concerts, by the way, she got the chance to perform concerts in AKM (Ataturk Cultural Center) and Cemal Resit Rey stages. She performed concerts with Flamenco Alaturca band which holds Isil and Manuel Reina in MKM (Mesopotamia Cultural Center), AKM (Ataturk Cultural Center) and CKM (Caddebostan Cultural Center) for nearly seven years. She shared the same stage with Marco De Ana in Sisli Cultural Center, and with Nukhet Duru in CKM. Berk studied in guitar. He began playing guitar with Ilgaz Benekay when he was 10. He took classical guitar lessons from Melih Gurel, Muzaffer Corlu and Kemal Belevi. These twins ways separated for a while when they're at university. Oyku studied voice in Istanbul Technical University State Conservatory. She worked repertoire with Alaaddin Yavascsa, voice with Erol Uras and musical with Faris Akarsu. Berk began Sound Engineering in Bilgi University. His aim was to be able to record his own music. Because he was thinking that, people does not have enough information ,in flamenco. In his second year in university, Cigdem Borucu told him that he needs to go to Spain. After this, Berk sent his demo records to Spain, and won scholarships from two academy. His dream was to live the "Spain", meet with gypsies and to live flamenco as an experimental and personal period. Berk met his dreams in Spain. He took courses from important teachers and he also found chance to perform live "fiesta"s and "juerga"s with famous flamenco performers like Duquende, Potito, La Tana, Miguel Parada, Guadiana, Montse Cortes. Oyku was planning to meet Turkish Classical Music and flamenco. She created a great synthesis by combining flamenco and vocal techniques that she learned in school.
