河合その子

Kawai Sonoko (河合その子) born June 20, 1965 in Tōkai, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, had great promise when she won the "Idol Dancepop" contest in 1983. In 1985 she joined the now legendary おニャン子クラブ (Onyanko Club). She soon released her debut solo single "Namida no Jasmine LOVE" that same year. Her popularity within Onyanko was great enough that she overshadowed most of the other girls and soon "graduated" into solo status. In 1987, she released her fourth album Rouge et Bleu. All songs were written by Tsugutoshi Gotō, who would later become her husband. Kawai had also entirely produced this album and had now come into control of the direction of her music - much more mature than her early days in Onyanko. Her artistic breakthrough came in 1990 with the release of the album Replica in which she wrote/co-wrote all the songs. With this album, she transcended being an idol and matured into a legitimate artist/songwriter/composer. Unfortunately, this was to be her last album. After her marriage, she announced that she would take a break from the music business. In 2010, she had a brief return to the industry to shoot a CM for Shiseido's new cosmetic brand "IN & ON", along with Yōko Oginome, Hidemi Ishikawa, and Tsukasa Itoh. Read more on Last.fm.
