In 1996 richten zanger-gitarist Joris Rasenberg, toetsenist Freek Imbens en basgitarist Robert Stobbelaar, die elkaar al van de middelbare school kennen, aangevuld met drummer John Koeken, de coverformatie The Acting Crowd op. In 1997 kiezen de bandleden voor de naam Abel (naar de gelijknamige film van Alex van Warmerdam) en voor het genre Nederlandstalige popmuziek. The line-up for this release was: - Abel Sanchez (Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Producer) - David Spediacci (Saxophone, Vocals) - Charles Bolds (Bass) - Tom Catalano (Drums) - Larry Chiesa (Trumpet, Vocals) - Russ Gary (Engineer) After a considerable hiatus, Sanchez released the album "Frisco Project" in 2002 under the Abel moniker, supported by his band The Prophets. 4.
