It was recorded by American R&B group Ruby & the Romantics in early December 1962 and released in February 1963, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. While their home was Akron, Ohio, they recorded their hits in New York for Kapp Records. They hit number-one in the winter of '63 with "Our Day Will Come" and while none of their follow-ups climbed as high, they were consistently popular in and received plenty of airplay around the New York area.
