Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers

Septuagenarian Washington DC based, musician Chuck Brown, along with his lively poly-rhythmic backing band the Soul Searchers were known as the founders of the soul funk musical genre offshoot known as Go-Go. Their influential sounds had been making people get up and dance since the early 1970's, and have been sampled by hip hop artists such as Nelly, Eric B. and Rakim and LL Cool J. He was popularly known in the DC Metro area as "the Godfather of Go-Go", and a hard working artist who layed the groundwork for the sub genre of funk that is known for non-stop marathon length live sets. Go-Go rose to it's greatest popularity in the early to mid 1980's, in part behind Brown's regional radio & club hits like "We Need Some Money" , "Bustin' Loose" , "Ashley's Roachclip", and "Back It On Up" . Chuck Brown passed away in 2012, in Baltimore, MD. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
